Dr Adwaita Nag is an Associate Consultant in this hospital with double specialization in Vitreoretina and Ocular Oncology. Currently, she is the only ophthalmologist in Eastern India trained in brachytherapy (radiation) for eye cancers. Her areas of interest are retinoblastoma, adult intraocular tumors (melanoma, hemangioma, metastasis, lymphoma) and ocular surface neoplasia. She is skilled in the treatment of all eye tumors and cancers, intravitreal injections, retinal lasers and medical and surgical management of retinal conditions.
She completed her MBBS from RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata with multiple gold medals followed by MS Ophthalmology (post-graduation) from RIO (Regional Institute of Ophthalmology), Medical College, Kolkata, achieving 2nd rank in the University. Subsequently she completed a 2 year fellowship in Vitreoretina from the prestigious Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai. During this period, she developed a special interest in eye cancers and subsequently, pursued an international fellowship in Ocular Oncology from Toronto, Canada, working at one of the top cancer hospitals in the world – Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.
Throughout her career, she has won many accolades and awards like the John Gaby Prize in Canada (2023) and the International Ophthalmic Heroes of India (2024). She is an excellent orator and has presented in various national and international conferences including Euretina, Netherlands (2023) and APOIS, Singapore (2020). She has published multiple articles in peer-reviewed indexed journals and was selected for the Global Oncology Leadership Development (GOLD) course.
